How To Have A Good Online Reading Experience

Hardly any website wants you to quietly read its content. Not even digital newspapers. Almost every page on the internet looks like one giant distraction.

Pop-ups asking you to sign up. Paragraphs surrounded by moving advertisements. And at least one video in the background that’s screaming in your ears even though you didn’t hit play.

So how do you read online in peace?

Here are a few ideas:

  • Use your browser’s reading mode. Some have them built in, others require you to install them through an extension, like this one for Chrome.
  • Save it to your device and read it later. The easiest ways to store articles for later are through apps like Pocket and Instapaper. If you want to download it as a PDF, check out Printfriendly.
  • Remove all distractions. If you want to read something without distractions right away, copy the link and post it into Outline. Then you’ll be left with nothing but text on a white background. Perfect.
