The Easiest Way To Win The Day

Even the best of us get into a funk. Days where we wake up without any mojo or sense of direction.

If not addressed, these low-energy moments can drag us down to places where we don’t like to be. That’s why it’s crucial you have a routine to break out of your funk.

My favorite way only costs one minute and comes from Navy Admiral William Mcraven:

Make your bed.

This may sound like taking a sugar pill to stop a migraine, but the logic is sound.

If making your bed becomes a personal priority, you can already accomplish one of your daily goals within the first minute after waking. Boom, instant joy. That little kick will then propel you to do another task, and another, and another.

If your goals are easy enough, you may get over a dozen things done within the first hour of the day. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

When you’re feeling a little down, even the simplest task can give you trouble. That’s why you want to set the bar as low as you can:

Make your bed.

P.S. Giving yourself easy morning tasks is good for everyone, funk or not, because it shows you that life really is about the little things. Plus, it motivates you to get off your ass and get stuff done. So if you’re done making up your bed, how about cleaning up your desk or coffee table?
