Childish Entrepreneurs

When it comes to hiring, it helps to be childish

Ever notice how kids are like tiny drunk adults? Honesty is their natural state of being. “You have much more hair in your nose than my dad.”

Ouch. Most grown ups need a few shots of liquid courage before they start dropping truth bombs.

An adult’s default is to be behaved and civil.

And so most hiring entrepreneurs interview their candidates as if they’re trying to make a friend. But that’s no way to find a suitable employee.

Like you, the candidate is on her best behaviour and making an effort to be likable.

If you want to figure out if the applicant is a good fit, you must gently rattle her cage.

How? With brazen honesty.

If there’s anything you don’t like about the interviewee, speak your mind. Your candor will reveal her true colours.

Get an idea of how she deals with negative feedback and you’ve got an idea of whether you want to put her on your payroll.
