The Conditions Of Freedom

Freedom is choice. But you have no choice in wanting pleasure because it’s basic to what you are. Everything you do is done in search of pleasure.

And to seek anything else is impossible. Because whatever you choose to do is what you prefer. Right?

So if you prefer pain, pain becomes pleasure. In other words: whatever you want is pleasure.

Does our inability to escape the thirst for pleasure mean we’re not free?

Of course not. To be alive means to have limits.

You’re never free to walk without a floor, to see without eyes, or to lose your head. These aren’t barriers, but the conditions of your freedom. And as long as you do not go against those conditions, you’re free to do anything.
